What's Up Wednesdays

What's Up Wednesday is a weekly feature created by Jaime Morrow and Erin L. Funk.  Perfect for readers and writers who want to share what they've been up to on a weekly basis and right now the place to share your goals and track your progress for Ready. Set. Write!

1) What I'm Reading
I finished Leviathan! Yay! I wasn't hooked enough to rush and pick up the sequel.  Never say never but the second book definitely isn't the top of my reading priorities.  This is what I'm reading next:

2) What I'm Writing

Overall goal for Ready. Set. Write!: Complete July Camp NaNo to finish off the story I started in April's Camp NaNo and decided to put aside for a bit of a chill out.  Also complete the round of edits I'm doing for Beast Inside.  I'd like the 2nd and 3rd edits which I'm doing back to back to be finished by the end of summer.

Weekly goal for 26/06/2013: Chapter 22 for Beast Inside.

Done.  In the first draft it was quite a long chapter so I've had to chop it in half and the second part can be my Chapter 23.

Weekly goal for 3/07/2013: Chapter 23 of Beast Inside and go over what I've written so far for Consequences so I know where I left of.  Start writing it again on 1st July for Camp NaNo.

3) What Else I've Been Up To

For research purposes (and fulfilling a dream, I'll admit) I've booked to go on an actual ghost hunt in August.  I get to use proper ghost hunting equipment and everything! I got to go to the Yorkshire Wildlife Park for the first time on a school trip today and decided I wanted a lemur. I'm not looking forward to waking up tomorrow and being unable to move a muscle after all the walking we did!

I had a training day last Friday and decided to take advantage of the playstation 3 and try out
Assassin's Creed II for the first time.  Seriously, I'm hooked.  And unable to look at buildings without thinking how I could climb up there.

4) What Inspires Me Right Now

Music.  To get in the mood for my wannabe ghost hunter stories I've been listening to the playlists a lot.  These are my top two songs that fit Lapse and Consequences perfectly and get the inspiration going:

Rockwell - Somebody's Watching Me

Lordi - Blood Red Sandman

  1. I'm sorry you didn't love LEVIATHAN as much as I did--but I probably didn't love CARRIE as much as you do. Life would be boring if we all liked the same things. :)

Congrats on the progress you're making with BEAST INSIDE. I hope you manage to make your goals for the week.

My oldest daughter (who is a lot closer to your age than I want to dwell on!) is a huge Assassin's Creed fan. I think she's still on the first game, though--I don't know if she's on II yet. I'll ask her. :) What I find amusing is the fact that she's a pleasant, soft-spoken, relatively passive kind of girl. Not someone you'd expect to find skulking rooftops in a hooded cape, looking for people to kill. She's also quite the sharp shooter on GoldenEye...

    1. I haven't played the Assassin Creed games but they've been recommended to me a few times. I love FPS games but only allow myself so much time for them since you know, time suck and all. I devoured Borderlands last fall and completely tapped out Skyrim before that (many, many hours of Skyrim).

    2. I've also had Assassin's Creed recommended to me, which amuses anyone who hasn't ever seen me at a sporting event to no end because they all think I'm this nice person (which is true, unless there are sports involved).

I think mostly my guy friends just want to laugh at me, though. That's usually what happens when gaming is involved.

    3. Assassin's Creed is quite addictive! ^^

Colin, I skipped I and went straight to II. I have a few guy friends who play it and they recommended to pass on the first game because there's a lot of cool assassin moves you learn in 2. I would like to try out Altair though. :)

Stephanie I'm terrible with this game. I have a bad habit of shouting and getting mad at Ezio. =/

    1. I was on a food shop today and saw rock salt. I was very tempted haha....

It's a very catchy song. I was having trouble coming up with music for these two ghost hunting WiPs but this is perfect even if it's slightly upbeat. I need some really good creepy ghostly type music. :)

  3. I have not read that series my wife loves it. Congrats on writing and good luck getting it all done. I have been burning the candle at both ends trying to get my WiP finished.

    1. The concept is interesting. Basically to sum up there are your two faery courts, Summer and Winter but there's a new breed of fey that have spawned because of humans' advances in technology: the Iron Fey. Which is a problem because old fey can be killed by iron. I really love the world. The only downside is ridiculous romance/love triangle. *rolls eyes*

  4. Do you watch Supernatural? When you mentioned a ghost hunt, all I could think was Ghost Facers, the fake reality TV show they've featured on it (two different really funny episodes). I believe in ghosts and haunting mysteries and things like that, but I can't say I'm brave enough to seek them out.

I am convinced there was some kind of spirit in the house I lived in while growing up. It was a cape cod style house with two bedrooms upstairs with slanty walls, no hall or bathroom or anything. I used to hear what sounded like footsteps from my bedroom downstairs but never said anything. Then as a teenager I moved upstairs and heard the steps from the room across the hall. I used to pray like crazy no one would come get me! Then I decided I should make friends with the ghost/stepper and I would regularly send out happy vibes and stuff. A few years later after we moved my mom said "i used to think a ghost was up in that spare room." I'm like Why did you let me move up there?!!! I guess she didn't want to scare me.

Good luck with your writing! I really want to read that book series; I've had Iron King on my TBR list for ages.

    1. I do! I love Supernatural! When I first read up on these ghost hunts I immediately thought get iron and rock salt! Haha! I won't say I'm brave. I'm probably going to scare myself silly, knowing me but I'm a sucker for doing these kind of things.

I definitely believe in ghosts. I've seen them, possibly my grandad and my great-grandma. But then again I can be quite skeptical when it comes to those ghost hunting reality shows. I've always wanted to do one to sort of experience what they experience and see for myself if a place is haunted.

  5. I love that you're going on a ghost hunt, sounds like so much fun. My room growing up was haunted. Probably still is. But by a friendly ghost. I never used to believe such things, but there have just been a few too many weird things that have happened to deny it 100%. Yes, it could be our imaginations, but it could also not be. My sister's friend claimed to see it. There's a big ghost story history in the area of my house (plantation owner making slaves dig a lake, then killing them all in it once it was filled), so things all add up perfectly. Spooky. I couldn't sleep in that room without music playing for years. Now it's no big deal.

    Good luck with your goals!

    1. I've only ever experience two ghosts and both fit my grandad and great-grandma. Although strange things do happen in the flat I'm currently living in. Things move and the tap turns itself on. A tad weird! It does make me wonder... ^^

Events and people definitely leave an imprint on places. I find it so fascinating! =D

  6. Good for you for reaching your weekly goal for Beast Inside! My week was kind of a bust for reaching goals. I think maybe this week I'll be a little more realistic. That ghost-hunting thing sounds interesting. I'd probably be too chicken to do something like that, but it sounds right up your alley. Have fun! :)

    1. Haha won't say I'm not going to be scared. I can be a chicken. :) As long as I don't split up with the group and read any latin I should be fine. ;)

  8. My husband LOVES anything and everything Assassin's Creed - I think it's the medieval feel to it more than anything. Also, that cover of the book you're starting - gorgeous!

Sounds like some great goals for the upcoming weeks! Good luck!
